The American Who Quit Money To Live In A Cave

Daniel Suelo gave up on money in 2000. He walked into a phone booth, pulled out 30 dollars and left it. Twelve years later, Suelo still does not have a personal i.d. bank accounts, a modern home, does not take money, or live off of federal welfare. Suelo, lives in caves in the canyon lands outside of Moab, UT. Suelo, harvests wild foods, eats roadkill, and dumpster dives. Suelo, is not an isolationist, he still is very active in the Moab community SE Utah politics and he is an active blogger.

  1. Is this the way Ben Laden started his "career"?
Was Plautus right, twentyfive centuries ago, to say "Homo homini, lupus"?
Are we, humans, behaving just like the beasts in a herd?

  2. This is fantastic. Money is the problem. This looks like one decent solution. Who needs the trappings of a consumer hell?

  5. This is a bullshit video. Why do I say this? because this is a story about a guy who went to live in the desert to get away from money. So, what does his "friend" do? Writes a book about Suelo living off the land........and make money from the sale of the book. Pathetic, unbelievable and farcical. As well as hypocritical.

  8. Maybe he was looking at the situation like he was tired of being a "slave" to the system and was ready for a simple life where he has no deadlines and is free to do what he wants when he wants. If nothing else, he is a good example that a person can live without money. Myself, I would have a really hard time eating road kill.

  10. A world without money is just not feasible as it leaves us with barter and trade which would likely result in more people living in his conditions. The current problems with money, is much of it is fiat money, simply iou's. I think he should argue for a currency based on a commodity ie. gold. He doesn't need to become a hobo to make a statement.
