It was probably repaired to stop the further collapse of the structures. More than likely these photos were taken when the site was redone to stop further deterioration, (as noted from pictures dating before 1954 which showed the rocks in different states of collapse) Check out the comment on: http://www.francisfrith.com/stonehenge/photos/1887_19797t/
Where there is Stonehenge, is present more than 2.500 years, and they want to conclude that it was built by human hands, is too afraid to accept that we are so primitive that they made these monuments with stone ... Why? Why...For over 3.000 years and do not know how they were raised ... We are still in the stone age mind.
Nice pictures. But I don't understand, is there some argument? There was a lot of construction on Stonehenge in the 1940s and 1950s, you can read about it in New Scientist 9 January 2001. Or talk to old timers who live near there, that boy in the photos is probably still alive. They did some archaeology at the same time and learned some new things about Stonehenge.
On the other hand, you can see Stonehenge in 19th century photos, 17th century painting, 12th century manuscript. It is very, very old. You can tell which parts have been rebuilt.
for the movie 'the black knight' - 1954
