Located near photographer Kai Fagerström’s family summer home in Salo, Finland, is a handful of abandoned dwellings in the woods. After residents had passed away or relocated, a group of feral animals took over the space.
In a story published for National Geographic entitled Once Upon a Home in 2012, Fagerström explains:
“When I go into these houses, it’s like stepping back in time—the past lingers in the corners.”
Kai is prizewinner in the BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition (2010, 2012). He also was Finnish Wildlife photographer of 2011 and overall Winner 2012 IFWPY contest. You can find the complete 33-picture series at kafa.fi.
